The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program can help a Section 8 participant reduce or eliminate reliance on government assistance to pay the bills. The FSS Program is designed to be a five-year program during which you will work with the Special Programs Coordinator to develop goals that will help you improve your financial stability. The Coordinator will connect you with resources you may need to achieve your goals. The Coordinator will also serve as your cheerleader and accountability partner on the road to self-sufficiency.
Money in Savings!
When you're in the FSS Program and get an increase in your household's earned income, money could be deposited into a savings account on your behalf. At the end of the five year FSS Contract, if you have met the goals you set for yourself and are suitably employed, you will receive the money that was deposited on your behalf … no strings attached. It all depends on you, but the average FSS pay-out is $4,000. People have earned much more; last year Cynthia received a check for $35,000!
